NEW BOKO HARAM THREAT ON BB: Unconfirmed Information

here is an unconfirmed information which has emanated from the Hausa community and has apparently been on BBC Hausa. The information is citing some threats from Boko Haram to bomb Lagos on January 1, and it is being termed in their local language as 'the mother of all bombings'. You are all advised to take all possible steps to secure your offices. At the personal level, please try to stay away from night clubs, cinemas, places of worship and other crowded places in Lagos. best regards, Ramesh Singh Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO) UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) Lagos, Nigeria.

In the midst of all the strife and bashing going on around us here in Nigeria, a lack of hope and trust in the fact that this country despite its current economic and political state will get better, Okpere Sunday caught a modest dream to create something that makes life easier for his fellow Nigerians. Not seeking fame but solutions to existing problems is the most intriguing part of Sunday’s story.
He was able to build this car using locally sourced materials and has plans of creating them at a commercial scale. I hope that the government and Nigerians all come together and support this change agent.

Jaywon was beaten up by his label mate, though senior, Edris Abdulkareem yesterday at satellite town carnival. Though no one could actually tell what brought about the fight, but a lot of people who knows both parties say Edris has been beefing Jaywon because of his fast success. He alongside his thugs beat up the young singer (jaywon), and since he couldn’t over power them, he was seriously injured. I hear he is presently hospitalised.

Space ball falls in Namibia (The Gods must be crazy))

Windhoek - A metallic ball weighing 6kg fell out of the sky and landed in north-east Namibia, the National Forensic Science Institute (NFCI) said on Thursday, adding that it was conducting tests in order to find out what it was.

It is a very thin stainless steel ball with lots of carbon filament wound around it to give it strength to withstand huge pressure.

It is filled with helium at tremendous pressure and is used between the different stages of space rockets to pressurise the fuel supply of each stage. Once a stage burns out and seperates from the main rocket these empty balls fall out. Because of the carbon fibre and its very low mass they do not burn out in the atmosphere - also the reason why it does not dent or buries itself into the earth on falling. _-Andries Marais

INEC’s Office Bombed In Ekiti

SSS arrests six over alleged theft of commission’s equipment
THE peaceful atmosphere in Ikole Ekiti community of Ekiti State was yesterday broken as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office was bombed by suspected hoodlums.
In a related development, six persons, including an employee of the INEC, have been arrested by the State Security Services (SSS) for allegedly stealing materials and equipment belonging to the electoral body in Lagos. The SSS boss in Lagos, Mr. Achu Ben Olaye told reporters that sequel to report to them on the matter, the SSS spread its dragnet and went for the suspected thieves.
Meanwhile, the commission yesterday announced the retirement of six officers who served in various capacities in Edo, Kwara, Zamfara, Imo and Osun, saying the action was in line with the efforts towards the re-positioning of the commission. Though the identities of the affected officers were kept under wraps, the commission, in a statement in Abuja by its Director of Public Affairs, Emmanuel Umenger, also announced the commencement of the voter’s registration in Bayelsa State, ahead of the February 11 governorship election in the state.
Sources said the hoodlums suspected to be political thugs drove in a Sport Utility Van (SUV) to the INEC office along Odooro Road, Ikole-Ekiti and beat the security man attached to the office to a state of coma before executing their devilish act. Read More on this story

Pastor impregnates 3 church members

A London based pastor has found himself treading in deep waters with her majesty’s law after getting 3 members of his church pregnant at the same time. Pastor Kwaku Antwi-kusi Junior 31, who has already fathered 2 children with a different church member is thought to have had sexual relations with almost every female members of his church and now he is reaping what he sowed. Pastor Kwaku Antwi-kusi Junior released an album “Bless The Lord” in 2009 and decided that this was a “call from god” to do his work, he established a church and called it Family Praise Ministries. He might have taken the term “family” too literally. Yes a church is a place for all of God’s children and we are one big family but his actions are far from appropriate. More news reaching us makes this an even more sticky situation. It turns out Pastor Kwaku is married to another church member. This was apparently kept secret from the other members of the congregation. We can only speculate what his intentions were. The church has since been closed down. Pastor Kwaku has since absconded leaving all these unanswered questions and pregnant women behind. This calls to question the integrity of many pastors and so called men of God. Just recently we heard the comment Duncan Williams made about his wealth. If this is the lives they live how do they lead the congregation.

(Believers) When is it Ok to Judge someone

Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand

Romans 14:10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister ? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.

John 7;24 says "Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly"

Matthew 7:1-2 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you"

1 Cor 2;15 "But the spiritual man tries all things [he [g]examines, investigates, inquires into, questions, and discerns all things], yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one [he can read the meaning of everything, but no one can properly discern or appraise or get an insight into him" (AMP).

John 12:47 “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

Acts 18:15 But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law—settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things.”

1 Corinthians 6:3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

1 Corinthians 10:15 I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.

But then, It is safest to leave everything for God to Judge.

Anti-gay law: 'Why I'm ashamed to be Nigerian"

By Chude Jideonwo,

Lagos, Nigeria (CNN) -- It is important to first understand that no gay Nigerian, as far as anyone knows, is seeking marriage -- in Nigeria.

You can comb the breadth of our decidedly homophobic media ("Homosexuals are in trouble!" crowed The Sun Newspapers, no doubt mirroring the excitement of its upright editorial board), and there is neither anecdotal nor empirical evidence of a clamor, even a quiet one, for gays to be married in churches, mosques or courts

Still, our legislators were hard at work over a considerable number of weeks while the rest of sane Nigeria, in a state of suspended disbelief, ignored them; convinced that, in a country with pressing issues such as fuel subsidy removal and debilitating insecurity, this frivolous legislation would not see light of day. Until yesterday when, of course, it did.

Our elected representatives in the Senate, armed with their version of our National Moral Code, took time off urgent national issues to tackle the even more urgent evil of gay marriages. Before we could catch our breaths, our over-paid and under-worked Senators had legalized homophobia.
According to the law, not only is gay marriage a crime punishable by a 14-year jail term, but "any person who registers operates or participates in gay... organizations" faces a decade in jail -- a clause that specifically targets the many active sexuality rights advocacy groups in the country. Nigeria Senate approves bill banning gay marriage in Africa’s most populous nation

LAGOS, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Senate voted Tuesday to criminalize gay marriage, instituting prison terms of more than a decade for violations in a nation where gays and lesbians already face discrimination and abuse.
The bill heads to Nigeria’s House of Representatives, who have to approve the bill and send it to President Goodluck Jonathan for his signature before it becomes a law. However, public opinion — and lawmakers’ calls for even harsher penalties for being gay — shows wide support for the measure in the deeply religious nation.

“Such elements in society should be killed,” Sen. Baba Dati said during the debate. Under the measure, couples who marry could face up to 14 years in jail, and witnesses or anyone who helps couples marry could be sentenced to 10 years behind bars. That’s an increase over the bill’s initial penalties. More on the Story

Nigeria's anti-corruption chief Farida Waziri sacked

by BBC

Nigeria's President, Goodluck Jonathan, has sacked the head of the country's anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). No reason was given by the president's office for Farida Waziri's dismissal. Her predecessor at the EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, was removed midway through his term in 2007 not long after Umaru Yar'Adua became president. Rights groups have been critical of the agency, accusing it of being under the influence of politicians. Nigeria has been plagued by allegations that its wealth has been used for corrupt purposes since the oil boom of the 1970s. Ms Waziri's deputy, Ibrahim Lamorde, has been appointed by the president to head the commission.

Berlusconi Steps Down, and Italy Pulses With Change

ROME — Marking the end of a tumultuous week and of an era in Italian politics, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi resigned Saturday evening after Parliament approved austerity measures sought by the European Union.

The lower house passed the measures on Saturday by a vote of 380 to 26, a day after they were approved by the Senate, trying to keep a step ahead of market pressures that sent borrowing rates on Italian bonds skyrocketing last week to levels that have required other euro zone countries to seek bailouts. The vote, and Mr. Berlusconi’s resignation, come amid the biggest crisis facing the European Union in decades, in which the power of financial markets has upended traditional democratic processes. Pressured by European leaders struggling to shore up the euro against speculative attacks, Prime Minister George A. Papandreou of Greece resigned last week to make way for a technocrat-led unity government. Mr. Berlusconi followed suit, a rare about-face for a leader known for his perseverance and his refusal to bow to critics. The end of Mr. Berlusconi’s 17-year hold on Italian politics sets off the country’s most significant political transition in 20 years.

US warns of attacks on luxury Nigerian hotels after 150 killed

The five-star Hilton, Nicon Luxury and Sheraton hotels in Nigeria’s capital, which are frequented by diplomats, politicians and Nigeria’s business elite, were identified by the US embassy. In an unusually specific warning on Sunday, US diplomats have advised their staff to avoid luxury hotels in Abuja. The embassy said the attack may come as Nigeria celebrates the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha. Experts say the militant Islamist group Boko Haram, which claimed responsibility for Friday’s violence and threatened more attacks, is working with al Qaeda which could push Nigeria into a Somalia-style civil war. The series of synchronised bombings on churches, mosques and police headquarters and running gun battles took place in Damaturu, capital of Yobe state. There were also synchronised attacks in Maiduguri, capital of neighbouring Borno state, and two small towns. Seven police officers and two soldiers were among the dead and 100 other people were injured in violence the country’s president Goodluck Jonathan labelled “heinous”. “This place was like a war zone. There is no single policeman on the street now. The attacks destroyed mosques and churches ... There were dozens of dead bodies, and no vehicles on the road,” said Benard Ogbeifun, a Damaturu artisan.lamist group is planning to bomb three luxury hotels in Abuja after 150 people were killed in coordinated attacks in northeast Nigeria.
