ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) — Meles Zenawi, Ethiopia's long-time ruler who held tight control over this East African country but was a major U.S counter-terrorism ally, died of an undisclosed illness after not being seen in public for weeks, Ethiopian authorities announced Tuesday. He was 57. Meles died Monday just before midnight after contracting an infection, state TV said. Hailemariam Desalegn, who was appointed deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs in 2010, became acting prime minister and will be sworn in as prime minister after an emergency meeting of parliament, said Bereket Simon, the communications minister. Deitrick haddon and damita haddon separated

Deitrick Haddon wrote on Facebook 14-08-12:

Many call me a man of God. I say i'm a good man trying to serve a great God the best i can..If i was that powerful of a Man Of God i would still be married 2 Damita. I'm learning to have balance because you can win & lose @ the same time! It's possible to work so hard & be so driven that u lose everything! I pray that in the future i find the balance of ministry & family! Damita's doing well & I'm doing fine! Her new cd is amazing. We both are staying true to the call on our lives. Unfortunately not 2gether anymore. I don't believe in sharing my personal but i think it's important 4 people to know that in your pursuit of ministry don't lose family! Don't be alarmed we're doing fine. This is very old news for Damita & i but brand new news 2 you. We're private people! We have moved on! Last i will speak on my personal: Our breakup is NOT recent! It's been well over a year process. We have both repented & moved on! Damita & i have worked hard in ministry..Blessed many while bleeding ourselves! God is with us both but no longer as a couple!OK...I'm very private about my personal life..You probably won't get me 2 ever speak on this again unless God make me share

MTN(Nigeria) wants you to win a brand new Aeroplane…Seriously!

Via bellaNaija

The competition amongst telecoms service providers is heating up once more. Not content with all the numerous competitions and giveaways, MTN has decided to up the ante…they are giving away an aeroplane.

Yes, a brand new aeroplane.

Quite interesting isn’t it. That said, we are sure most people know that the cost of owning an aeroplane is so exorbitant that it’s basically impossible to maintain one except you are Forbes-list worthy.
Anyway, there is a cash equivalent option for those who don’t want to take their chances with the plane. No word on the model and monetary value of the plane though.

What next? Airtel, Glo or Etisalat ..to offer customers a trip to the moon???

Olympic Medals and their value

Olympic medals use a lot of metal but these days the gold medal is mostly silver. The silver medal is sterling silver while the bronze is largely copper. The last time the Olympic Games handed out solid gold medals was a hundred years ago at the 1912 Summer Games in Stockholm, Sweden.
Gold medals were in fact only gold for eight years. The 1904 Olympics in St. Louis introduced the gold medal as the prize for first place.
“Gold prices have risen sixfold in the last ten years alone,” says Terry Hanlon, president of Dillon Gage Metals in Dallas. “Prices climbed from $300 an ounce a decade ago to $1,895 last year.” The yellow metal has declined a bit since and stands at $1,580 in July.

Silver prices have also surged in the last decade but are considerably less than gold at $27.00 an ounce in July, Hanlon notes.

This year’s 2,300 Summer Olympic medals are being guarded at the Tower of London until the Games begin on July 27. The 2012 gold medal is 92.5 percent silver and 1.34 percent gold, with the rest copper. The silver medal is 92.5 percent silver, with the remainder copper, and the bronze medal is 97 percent copper, 2.5 percent zinc and 0.5 percent tin.

London Olympics: Cameroon athletes 'abscond'

Seven Cameroonian athletes have absconded while in Britain for the Olympics, officials say.
The seven, including five boxers, are suspected of having decided to stay in Europe for economic reasons, Reuters news agency reports.
A reserve goalkeeper for the women's soccer team, Drusille Ngako, was the first to disappear, the agency quoted Cameroon's Olympic mission as saying.
In June, an Ethiopian torchbearer, Natnael Yemane, 15, also disappeared.
He went missing from a hotel in Nottingham.
"What began as rumour has finally turned out to be true," Team Cameroon mission head David Ojong said, in a letter sent to the Cameroonian sports ministry.
"Seven Cameroonian athletes who participated at the 2012 London Olympic Games have disappeared from the Olympic Village."
Ngako was the first to disappear while her teammates left for Coventry for their last preparatory encounter against New Zealand, he said.
Her disappearance was followed by that of swimmer Paul Ekane Edingue and five boxers eliminated from the games.
Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Ambomo, disappeared on Sunday from the Olympic village, Mr Ojong said.
