Golden eagle snatching Canadian boy video is hoax - clipmakers

Via BBC

A video of a golden eagle snatching a child in Canada that has gone viral online was an elaborate hoax aimed at testing the skills of the clipmakers.

The video shows the bird briefly lifting the child in a Montreal park before dropping him unharmed. Nearly 17 million people have watched the video on YouTube in three days.

But a digital training centre in Montreal later told the BBC that the clip was made by its students as part of a degree course. Suzanne Guevremont, director of the Centre NAD, said the clip had been produced by four students who "had an idea of making something believable".

The students - who were doing a degree in 3D animation and digital design - had come up with the idea after a brainstorming session, completing the project in seven weeks, she said. "It's a challenge... they wanted to test their skills," Ms Guevremont said. She added that the bird and the child seen being snatched were all computer generated imagery (CGI), and the only real things in the video were the park, the boy (after being dropped on the ground) and his father comforting him.

The CGI was dropped into real footage to create the effect. Some YouTube and Twitter users expressed doubts about the authenticity of the clip soon after it was posted online on 18 December.A video of a golden eagle snatching a child in Canada that has gone viral online was an elaborate hoax aimed at testing the skills of the clipmakers.

'Jesus lookalike' darts fan ejected for 'distracting players

  • Nathan Grindal, 33, was told to leave final after fans chanted 'Jesus' at him
  • Nathan, of Oxfordhsire, was escorted to a nearby bar to watch rest of the game
  • Professional Darts Corporation said he was evicted before players were distracted
  •

A darts fan was kicked out of a live televised final after the 4,500-strong crowd interrupted play by taunting him - because he looks like Jesus.
Bearded Nathan Grindal was enjoying the clash between Phil Taylor and Kim Huybrechts when some of the audience spotted his likeness to the son of God.
Chants of 'Jesus' quickly spread through the rowdy crowd packed into Butlins' at Minehead, Somerset.
Security staff were called amid fears that Nathan's omnipresence was upsetting the concentration of ex-world champ Taylor and his Belgian rival.
The labourer, of Abingdon, Oxfordshire, was close to tears as six bouncers removed him from the Cash Converters Players' Championship which was being shown on ITV4.
As he left a chant of 'Stand up if you love Jesus' broke out with many of the boozed-up crowd getting to their feet.
Nathan, 33, was escorted to a nearby bar where the security staff bought him a pint and told him to watch the rest of the final on the telly.
He saw the legendary Taylor win - and then found himself being asked to pose for signed photos with fans as they left the arena.
Blond-haired Nathan, who emigrated from his native Australia to Oxford six years ago, said: 'I didn't go to the darts dressed as Jesus - I went as me.
'It was all very weird and distressing. I didn't break down crying but I did get emotionally distraught.

Anne Hathaway accidently exposes herself while exiting her car

    Via Linda Ikeji

It has happened to Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and now it's happened to one of my favorite actresses, Anne Hathaway. She went to the New York premiere of her new movie Les Miserables without any underwear. And as she exited her car, paparazzi did their job. They took photos. The photos are now all over the internet. Below is what Anne had to say about the incident
It was obviously an unfortunate incident. It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it. And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants

Yeah its truly sad! But it's the paparazzi's job to capture these moments. Hehe. Just learn from it and visit Victoria's Secret ASAP. Meanwhile, if you care to see the uncensored photo, go HERE. God forgive you for looking. Lol

Ghana president elected for new term

    Reuters

Incumbent John Dramani Mahama won a new term as president in Ghana in an election the opposition claimed was marred by vote-rigging, Reuters reports.
Mr Mahama, who replaced John Atta Mills after his death in July, took 50.7 per cent of the ballots cast – just enough to avoid a run-off with his chief rival, Nana Akufo-Addo, according to the state election commission.

“Based on the results, I declare President John Dramani Mahama president-elect,” Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, the Ghana Electoral Commission president, told a news conference in the capital Accra on Sunday.

The election was regarded as a test of whether Ghana would be able to build on more than 30 years of stability and progress in a region better known for coups, civil wars and corruption.
A cliffhanger election in 2008, in which Mr Akufo-Addo lost by less than 1 per cent, pushed the country to the brink of chaos, with disputes over results driving hundreds of people into the streets with clubs and machetes.

This year’s election suffered numerous delays after hundreds of newly-introduced electronic fingerprint readers – used to identify voters – failed on Friday and forced some polling stations to reopen on Saturday to clear the backlog.
Security forces used teargas to disperse hundreds of supporters of Mr Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party demonstrating in front of the electoral commission building shortly before the results were declared.

The protests came after Jacob Obetsebi-Lamptey, the NPP chairman, said he had evidence of electoral workers conspiring to rig the vote. He said the party had asked the electoral commission for an audit before full results were released.

Mr Mahama has vowed to use rising oil revenues in Ghana, which started oil production in late 2010, to kick-start development, create jobs and combat poverty.
Mr Akufo-Addo, a British-trained lawyer, had criticised the ruling party for failing to root out government corruption and promised to provide free primary and secondary school education.
But in a country where campaign messages rarely influence voting choices, many believe most of Ghana’s 14m voters cast their ballots on ethnic, social or regional ties.
Ghanaians are also electing a parliament, in which Mr Mahama’s party has enjoyed a slim majority. Results are not yet available.

In Pictures: Nigeria Under Water – BBC Feature on Flooding in Nigeria Vividly Captures the Devastating Impact of the Flood on Individuals & Families

In Pictures: Nigeria Under Water – BBC Feature on Flooding in Nigeria Vividly Captures the Devastating Impact of the Flood on Individuals & Families

Nigeria has in recent months been hit by its worst ever case of flooding. The flood which began in early July 2012 has displaced millions from their homes and killed over 300 people. According to the National Emergency Management Agency, a total of 7.7 million people were affected by flooding during the period, of which 2.1 million were officially registered across the country as internally displaced persons. The flooding, which was caused by the overflowing of the River Niger has greatly affected many states of the federation. To alleviate the sufferings of people displaced by the flood, billions of Naira has been allocated by the Federal Government and donated by well meaning groups and individuals. Despite the efforts aimed at reducing the devastating impact of the flood, some parts of the country are still under water with many residents unable to live in their homes or run their businesses. A recent BBC feature titled “In pictures: Nigeria under water” gives a more personal view of the sufferings people face as a result of the flooding. As stated on the website: Widespread flooding across Nigeria in recent months has killed 363 people and displaced more than two million. Photographer Gideon Mendel has visited communities in the south battling to recover six weeks after their homes were flooded. He found many people’s houses in Igobeni, Bayelsa state, still waist-high with water.

Here traditional healer Joseph Edem, his wife Endurance and children Godfreedom, aged 10, and Josephine, 12, stand in front of their Igobeni house. The family says the floods were sudden. “I thought we were going to die,” says Josephine. “I don’t know where many of my friends are because water also entered their house.”
Nigerian farm worker Dalami, pictured above in Ahoada in Rivers state, says the day the floods hit more than 50 goats were drowned.
Kingsley Isiakpere and Edna Silas, who have six children, said they were sleeping when the water starting coming into their Igobeni home on 29 September. “We started packing in a rush,” says Mr Isiakpere. “[Now] my walls are spoiled, we have lost clothes, furniture and our building material to improve the house. There is no help from the government. If floods carry on like this people will run away out of this country.”

Ratmas Ebiarohon, pictured washing himself in floodwaters in Igbogeni, says the floods came “without stop”. “My whole house was covered. I am a furniture maker, and it destroyed all my equipment – my generator, my spray machine, my jigsaw. Now I am totally down. I do not know what to do. The value of what I lost is about 4.5m naira [$28,550, £17,800].”
“When the floods started coming we thought it was a joke,” says 37-year-old Godspower Kenz, pictured in his home in Igbogeni. “We never knew it would come up to this level. Most of our possessions are damaged. I have thrown away so many things. There is no work, no food, nothing for us.”
Florence Abraham, 48, says she fled with her husband and five children when the floods came. “I used to employ 26 workers in my bakery [in Igbogeni]. The floods destroyed all my equipment: My mixers, my rollers, my ovens. Everything is lost. I cannot count how many millions of naira. We have no help from anybody.”
Wisdom and Lilian Ginikawa had a small shop selling medicines on the main road nearby their house in Igbogeni. “We had to run away and leave our property,” says Mr Ginikawa. “The flood destroyed all our things and also people have come and stolen things from the house. We did not expect the flood, there was no warning. I have never seen such a flood in my life. We have no money to start afresh. We look for God, but God can’t help.”
Here a young woman strides through floodwaters on her way to church on a Sunday morning, in Igbogeni. Many areas of Bayelsa state, in the country’s oil-rich Niger Delta region, have been flooded, including Otuoke, the home village of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“My child Godstime was a year old. He was taken away by the water,” says Toinzbeze Nelson, pictured holding her daughter Destiny. “When I went to the house to try to save some things, I put my child on the bed. I turned around and he had fallen in the water.” She was living in a squalid camp of wooden houses in Yenagoa for people who left the Bakassi peninsula when it was awarded to Cameroon several years ago and has now sought refuge at a nearby school.
“We lost so many things I cannot count. Mosquitoes they bite us, we do not have enough food here,” Ms Nelson says. Other camps have been set up in Bayelsa to accommodate those displaced by the flooding. The one pictured here is called Igbogeni Camp Nine and is now home to around 500 people.

The impact of the flooding hits home, appears even more real with these pictures and accounts of these people. Most times when we read the news, all we see are figures, statistics, but these pictures have captured in a more vivid way, the sufferings people have faced as a result of the flooding. The woman who lost her child; the couple who lost their home; the woman who lost her business…. We give kudos to everyone who has donated, supported or helped alleviate the sufferings of these people in any little way. This feature serves as a reminder that there is still more to be done, more people who need help and we sincerely hope the flooding comes to an end very soon.

Westbrom defender wipes Bum with 20pound note(Photos)

West Brom defender Liam Ridgewell, 28, squats over a toilet and wipes his backside with a wad of £20 notes. Scattered on the floor in front of him are dozens more £20 notes, totalling almost £1,000.

The Premier League star, who earns at least £20,000 a week, is apparently using the cash instead of toilet roll. He claims the sick stunt was simply a “joke” to wind up a friend — but it will infuriate more than just his pal.

It’s a photo that will enrage hard-working football fans across Britain.

Ridgewell’s weekly wage is equivalent to the average annual salary in the West Midlands — one of the most deprived areas in the country.

The disgraceful snap — taken in the bathroom of Ridgewell’s £1.5million home in Barnt Green, Birmingham — was sent to The Sun by a West Brom fan who asked not to be named.
He said: “The people of West Bromwich earn a fraction of what this earns yet he makes a mockery of his good fortune like this. It makes me sick”. “We’ve always thought footballers were arrogant, overpaid buffoons and this just proves it”.

Ridgewell, an unused sub in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Stoke yesterday, apologised last night.

He said: “The photo was taken in the privacy of my home around eight months ago as a joke to wind up a mate, who I had just won a personal bet with”. “I only intended him to see the photo but now it’s public, I can understand how it will be viewed. I am sorry for any offence it causes”.

A spokesman for West Brom, currently fifth in the Premier League, said: “This is a private issue for Liam that has become public. “It does not put the club in a good light and we will deal with the matter internally”.
